Saving, Enhancing and Sharing your Photographs Workshop with photographer Cal Rice on Saturday, February 27 and March 5, 2016

This workshop is for:  the family historian wanting to make digital copies of photographs from that old shoebox, the artist wanting photographs that look as good as their art, and, everyone who would like to share their images digitally on the internet.

Saturday, February 27, 2016:  Bring your laptop (desired but not required) so you can be “hands on” with the Picasa software which will be available free to everyone.  Cal will provide images so everyone can follow along together.  Getting the photo into a digital form may involve the use of a scanner, copier (perhaps you have one on your printer) or camera (including the smart phone).  We will  consider various techniques to transfer the images into the computer.  Photo correction includes:  correcting color on faded pictures, lighten images if needed and adjust contrast.  Finally, we will straighten and crop the image for maximum impact.

Homework:  take 3-5 of your photos, digitize them onto your computer, bring them into Picasa, correct the color and crop them for maximum impact.

Saturday, March 5, 2016:  Bring your images on your laptop, or on a jump drive, to share with the class and receive comments/assistance from the instructor.  Also bring any questions/problems from your individual work.

Cost of two day workshop:  $75

First City Singers

A non-auditioned chorus program for “seniors” or retirees who love to sing and perform in our community. Rehearsals are always on Mondays from 1-2pm at Headwaters School of Music & the Arts. Cost associated with involvement in this group is $10 per month.

We are learning more and more about the positive effects of music on the brain, the positive effects singing has on the aging brain and the powerful affect music has on unlocking memories.   Drop by any Monday afternoon and check out this group if you are interested in singing, sharing the gift of songs, and all the while doing good for your mind and body!

The group performs the 3rd Monday at Havenwood Care Center; the 3rd Wednesday at Gold Pine Homes; the 3rd Friday at Baker Park; the last Monday of the month at either WindSong or Tamarack Assisted Living; and the last Tuesday of the month at Neilson Place.
