Headwaters Music & Arts hosts Intro to Needle Felting, a workshop for area adults led by local artist Sharon Nordrum. Needle felting is sculpting with fiber. This tactile art form began as a utilitarian method of manipulating wool and other natural fibers with its roots evidenced in many cultures around the world. Learn about both flat and more 3D sculptural needle felting in this two session workshop, held 6-8pm Monday December 5 and Tuesday December 6.
Participants will learn by creating a small seasonal ornament, and can opt to bring their own ornament design or choose from one of the many designs on hand. All supplies will be provided. Though some may finish a couple of projects over the course of the two night class, those who do not finish their ornament will go home with everything they need to complete their project.
Sharon Nordrum, an enrolled member of the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians, has been creating art her whole life. Focusing mainly on Ojibwe woodland and Norwegian rosemaling painting styles, she also enjoys working with many different fibers – from weaving sweetgrass and pine needles to needle felting and black ash basket making. Sharon is the founder of the Anishinaabe Artisan Market that hosts the Artisan Markets in the Bemidji area. She is also a dog lover and trainer competing in several dog sports. She says, “I look forward to teaching new people my love of art!”
The cost to attend Intro to Needle Felting is $75 per person. Space is limited, please register by November 28.
