Introduction to Tapestry Weaving with Kristin Majkrzak

March 22, 2019 – March 24, 2019 all-day
Headwaters Music & Arts
519 Minnesota Ave NW
Bemidji, MN 56601
$135 - $150

Spend a weekend with local fiber artist and weaver, Kristin Majkrzak, creating a small wall hanging on a simple frame loom to learn basic weaving techniques. Starting at the beginning with how to warp your loom you will be taken through the artistic process of tapestry creation including using straight lines with interacting color, and then moving on to curving shapes and distorted weft. Kristin will show you some different methods of finishing your tapestries before the weekend is up.

Tapestry weaving is a medium of artistic expression that is both ancient and modern. It is a way of “painting” with yarn that uses texture, color, and line in the design process, and your style can be anything from realistic to abstract.

Kristin says “Tapestry weaving is my favorite means of visual artistic expression. The limitations of the weaving grid are freeing, as form can be for poetry. I like to feel the creative sparks as I work my way around those limitations.”

The workshop will be held over the course of three days March 22nd – 24th. The group will meet 6:30 – 9:00 pm, March 22nd, and from 9:30 am – 4:30 pm on Saturday, March 23rd and Sunday, March 24th, with an hour break for lunch from noon-1:00 pm both days.

The cost to attend is $150 ($135 for Headwaters members). All levels of experience, 18 and older (RSVP Required. Limited number of spots available.)
