Headwaters Open Mic and CoffeeHouse is once again scheduled for June 3 at 7pm. Held in downtown Bemidji at Headwaters Music & Arts (519 MN Ave NW), this monthly community gathering offers a friendly open mic opportunity and welcoming environment for folks to listen and perform. The event will be taking a break over the summer so join local artists and featured artist, Lisa Dixon, to bid it adieu for the warm month. Sign-up begins at 6:30 or by email to jjhgaard@gmail.com.

Lisa Dixon is a local songwriter and musician originally from Warroad, MN. She fell in love with music at a young age, taking piano and flute lessons before picking up a guitar as a young teen. She's played at many coffee shops, pubs, and festivals around Minnesota over the years while getting her degree in Journalism in Duluth, working at a fishing resort at the Northwest Angle, and teaching music at a studio in Rochester before finally settling down with her family here in Bemidji.

Her musical interests vary greatly, as she draws influences from the classic folk and soft rock of her parents' vinyl collection all the way to the modern pop and rock music of today. She believes that at the heart of all music there is simply a story, and Lisa is always looking for ways to find the beauty in meaning behind each song. Lisa plans to perform mostly originals on June 3.

Held on the first Friday of most months, the Headwaters Open Mic offers a welcoming and supportive community for musicians and spoken-word performers. All ages and skill levels are encouraged to sign up for a 10 to 15 minute set.

Headwaters CoffeeHouse is a volunteer-led community event at Headwaters Music & Arts held the first Friday of most months. Fun, welcoming, family friendly and supportive, the event has a relaxed and casual tone that encourages musicians, singers, and spoken word performers of all ages and skill levels.
